School districts in the Dallas Region are locally administered and independent of one another. District lines generally relate to city boundaries, but they are not exclusive to them. For example, Richardson ISD includes students in Richardson and parts of Dallas and Garland. Dallas Independent School District- or DISD, as it is known locally- is the region’s largest school district, with over 143,000 students and a nationally recognized magnet program. In Tarrant County, Fort Worth ISD dominates, with more than 74,000 students.
