District Size & Class Size: 5,229 students. Student-to-teacher ratio in K-4 class sizes is as close to 22:1 as possible; 5-12 grade classrooms are as close to 25-28:1 as possible.

Distinguishing Characteristics: The district is committed to smaller schools as a way to allow students the opportunity to participate and excel in activities and to connect to their schools through meaningful relationships with peers and adults. Aledo High School is classified as 5A under the new UIL system for competition. The district fosters collaboration with community and parents to ensure student success.  Unique partnerships result in public-private endeavors that bring programs to our campuses and provide young people with exceptional opportunities.

Specializations and Program Offerings: The district creates its own curriculum with specific learning objectives designed to challenge students at every grade level. Lessons are evaluated on an annual basis. The district offers AP/pre-AP courses, a dual-credit Program with Weatherford College and a variety of Career and Technical Education programs. Foreign language offerings are Spanish and Latin. Special program services are provided in the district on home campuses or through centralized programming. Technology integration is valued. AISD provides full–day kindergarten.

Extracurricular: Students can participate in athletics through football, basketball, baseball, soccer, softball, volleyball, track and cross-country, swimming, golf, and powerlifting. We have a comprehensive fine arts program that includes the visual arts, band, color guard, choir and theater. There are multiple opportunities at all levels for academic competition, and we have a strong academic decathlon program. A sampling of activities include UIL Academics, National Honor Society, Student Council, Computer Science/Technology Club, debate, National Art Honor Society, Spanish Club, and yearbook.

Safety and Security: Aledo ISD has its own police department. The safety/security systems at our schools allow the use of cameras to monitor school facilities. Visitor registration systems are an additional safety feature at schools.

M&O/I&S Tax Rates and Last Bond Passage: M&O: $1.17; I&S: $0.2552. May 2008 for $67,025,000 with an approval rating of 58 percent. Our community supports our efforts to provide a superior education for our students.

Selling Points: When surveyed, approximately 92 percent of our graduating seniors plan to continue their education at a college, technical/trade school, or in the military. AHS graduates earn millions of dollars in scholarships to further their education at schools of choice.

Philosophy: It is the purpose and mission of the Aledo Independent School District to provide all of its students with an educational program that will allow them to develop intellectually, physically, and socially in order to be responsible citizens and contributing members of society. Inherent within this purpose and mission is the belief that all students can learn and that schools can make a difference in the lives of their students.
