Size & Class Size: 6,229 students. Azle ISD maintains a 22:1 student-to-teacher ratio at grades pre-K through 4; 5-12 grade classrooms are as close to 26-29:1 as possible.

Distinguishing Characteristics: Azle ISD is located 15 miles west of Fort Worth, near Lake Worth and Eagle Mountain Lakes. AISD is committed to provide highly engaging work for students to prepare them for life after high school.  We are a rural school district that is focused on engaging students in relevant and meaningful work in order to best prepare them for the real world of work and college. Azle High School has 1,700 students and is classified 5A under the new UIL alignment. All Azle ISD students in K-12 have individual access to 1:1 iPad technology. Azle ISD has partnered with the Schlechty Leadership Center for the past five years to best prepare teachers to provide quality instruction which meets the needs of today’s digital learners.

Specializations and Program Offerings: Azle ISD offers a challenging and rigorous curriculum designed to educate the whole child. Teachers are actively involved in ongoing staff development in order to focus on continuous academic improvement.  A partnership with Tarrant County College allows students to earn more than 30 dual-credit hours. AISD passed a $20 million bond election recently in order to build a new Career and Technology Center and a competition gym at the high school. Robotics and Maker Space labs are offered as an elective at intermediate schools, junior high, and high school. Each May, the district offers a showcase in which all grade levels celebrate their best work for the year. Approximately 6,000 people attend this event.

Extracurricular: Students can participate in athletics through football, basketball, baseball, soccer, softball, volleyball, track, cross-country, swimming, golf, powerlifting and wrestling. Fine arts include a state finalist marching band, state champion drum line, visual arts, theater, color guard, choir, orchestra, drill team/dance and cheerleading. The high school cheerleaders recently were crowned Texas UIL State Champions.  We have a strong math and science team, automotive repair, National Honor Society, student council, FFA, and robotics.

Safety and Security: Azle ISD uses more than 300 video cameras to maintain campus security. All faculty and staff rehearse fire, tornado, earthquake, and active-shooter drills on a continuous basis. AISD has its own police force and school resource officers assigned to monitor campuses. In addition, the district uses the Raptor System to conduct criminal background checks of all visitors.

Selling Points: Highly trained and outstanding teachers provide engaging and meaningful work to all students on a daily basis. Every student is equipped with an iPad, and each classroom has a smart board, a document camera, and digital projector, laptops, and personal computers. Last spring, graduating seniors received more than $2 million in scholarships. The Azle Education Foundation (AEF) was founded in 2009 to provide support for the district via teacher grants and student scholarships. The AEF has contributed more than $750,000 to Azle ISD.
