Distinguishing Characteristics: BISD is recognized as a premier school district in the DFW area. A variety of specialized programs are offered at each campus to ensure that students are both college and career ready. Burleson ISD provides a dynamic and inviting learning environment that is preparing our 21st-century workforce.

Specializations and Program Offerings: Burleson ISD currently offers a wide variety of career and technical education options, Gifted and Talented, and Advanced Placement offerings, as well as a comprehensive special education program. Burleson ISD has four elementary choice schools, 1 choice middle school, 1 program of choice within a middle school, and a Collegiate High School. In the last year, enrollment in Dual Credit courses tripled and 54% of all high school students were taking Advanced Courses. Burleson ISD also has an Academic Innovation Department to offer students an opportunity to participate in many programs such as Student Spaceflight Experiments Program (SSEP), First Lego League, BISD Ignites (a student speaker series), a district Film Festival and more.

Extracurricular: Burleson ISD offers every UIL athletic option and has UIL academic programs at both comprehensive high schools. In addition, there are opportunities to be involved in robust fine arts programs and clubs, National Honor Societies, academic decathlon, and CTE student organizations. Campuses offer a number of service clubs and organizations that support the needs of our local community.

Safety and Security: The safety/security systems at existing and new schools allow the use of digital technology and high-resolution cameras to capture images at all times in common areas, parking lots, and building entrances. Controlled access and advanced visitor registration systems are additional safety features at schools. All secondary campuses have a school resource officer on-site. That officer is also available to the campus feeder elementary schools. The district has a strong working relationship with the city of Burleson. BISD provides first responders immediate and real-­time access to cameras, floor plans, photos, and contact information for all BISD schools in case of an emergency.

M&O/I&S Tax Rates and Last Bond Passage: M&O: $1.04; I&S: $0.50. The last bond package was in November 2006 for $259 million, with a 65.78 percent approval rating.
