District Size & Class Size: 3,100 students. The  student-to-teacher ratio is 15.3:1.

Grade Level Alignment: Elementary (pre-K – 5); middle school (6th) and separate (7-8); high school (9-12).      

Texas A-F Accountability Rating: This district received a B.

Distinguishing Characteristics: DISD has two-to-one student technology in elementary schools, and they have one-to-one student technology in 6-12 grades. Our facilities are state of the art: room to grow, wireless, and modern. Our partnerships with Weatherford College and other schools in Wise County have led to successful student and teacher collaborations.

Specializations and Program Offerings: Our elementary program includes a dual language immersion program, allowing students to become both bilingual and biliterate. We serve special education students with a variety of needs through our district special education department. We serve dyslexic students, gifted and talented students, and ELL students. Our 8-12 grades boast our AVID program.  Students at the high school level may choose from many AP or dual-credit courses. We have a variety of CTE courses, allowing our students to earn certificates and licenses.

Extracurricular: We offer all major sports, along with soccer, tennis, golf, and others. We have state-winning cross-country and volleyball teams. Our fine arts program and facilities are the best in the area. Beginning in elementary school, we support UIL Academics competitions. In middle school, students may be selected for National Junior Honor Society, and the high school has National Honor Society as well as Spanish Honor Society. Our elementary students have leadership clubs, and our middle and high schools have student councils, FFA, FCCLA, FCA, and others.

Safety and Security: All campuses have high-resolution cameras, card-reader doors, and the Raptor identification system. The middle and high schools have dedicated school resource officers, and the elementary schools have an officer on call.

M&O/I&S Tax Rates and Last Bond Passage: Our M&O is $1.04 and our I&S is $0.30. For a total tax rate of: $1.34.Our most recent bond for $13.5 million was passed in May 2015.

Selling Points: Decatur is the county seat of Wise County and is located 40 minutes from DFW.   We are close enough to the big city to catch all the thrills of professional sports, elegant dining, shopping, plays, musicals and even amusement parks… yet far enough away to be able to return home to the peace and quiet of a small town neighborhood filled with children’s laughter, little league baseball games and back yard bar-b-ques.
