Whimsical Wonders

The Dallas Region boasts parks that go beyond the traditional green space. With new developments around the region, from more inclusive parks to the nation’s first glow-in-the-dark park, there is more to a park than just a slide and some swings. With Spring in full bloom, and summer not too far from us, check out these parks for an exciting experience at each!

JON COMER SKATEPARK: Garland, TX

Named as the godfather of adaptive skating, Jon Comer, a native from Garland, TX was the first pro skateboarder with a prosthetic leg. His commitment to his love for skateboarding helped bring adaptive skateboarding to be a part of the X Games. Famous skateboarder, Tony Hawk, and the skateboarding community called for the skate park to be named after Jon Comer and his legacy and changed its name on May 16, 2023.

This skate park is the second largest in the nation with more than 48,000+ square feet of skating area, anyone of any experience is welcome to skate and use any of the following features: curbs, rails, hips, volcanoes, bumps, drop-ins, bowls, and banks.

PLAYGRAND ADVENTURES: Grand Prairie, TX

Open 7 days a week, PlayGrand Adventures is one where people of all ages and abilities are there to enjoy the slides, ropes, music, textures, and sensory games! From dusk to dawn, and open year-round, guests are welcomed to have fun at PlayGrand Adventures. And get this, there are 8 more parks set to be completed, each with its own inclusive play. Once the playground is completed, with 10 acres of endless fun for all, it will become one of the largest specialized playgrounds in Texas and one of the largest public playgrounds in southwestern U.S.

DREAM PARK ADVENTURES: Fort Worth, TX

Nestled across the street from Fort Worth Botanic Gardens, Fort Worth Dream Park is the perfect mix of whimsical and imaginative where kids of all abilities can share adventures together. This park is full of instruments, adaptive devices, and a sensory-rich environment, where children and adults are able to enjoy this playground all day! Drawing in more than 2 million visitors annually, the park is currently under deep cleaning procedures until March 3 to ensure the best experience for all park-goers.

BICENTENNIAL PARK: South Lake, TX

Part of Southlake’s 2035 Comprehensive Plan, the Bicentennial Park at Southlake is one of the first and features different amenities for all. Surrounded by baseball fields, basketball courts, a tennis center and a playground, there is something to do for everyone.

JOYA: Farmers Branch, TX

You might have heard of glow-in-the-dark t-shirts, but have you heard about a glow-in-the-dark playground?! The Joya Playground in Farmers Branch is the nation’s first glow-in-the-dark playground with interactive features that glow at night. This playground is perfect for those soon to come summer nights where it’s cool enough to play in the playground without having to worry about your next step in front of you. Part of the Oran Good Park Complex which includes baseball and softball field, a turf, soccer field, trails, and rawhide creek, this just might be your new spot for a refreshing day-or night- out!

BOLDER ADVENTURE PARK: Grand Prairie, TX

Allergies getting to you? No worries! Bolder Adventure Park is the perfect place to get your heart pumping whether there is rain or shine. This park offers different sets of activities for all thrill-seekers in their 66,000 square foot space. Opening its doors in 2023, this park also serves its guests pizza, burgers, and beer from local brewers. With fun at each corner, from zip lining to free falling from six floors, you’ll definitely want to check Bolder Adventure Park out.

Step into the vibrant world of DFW dining with famous TikTok food critic, Keith Lee. Keith Lee visited Dallas Region restaurants, known for their sweet and savory tastes. BRUNCHAHOLICS Desoto, TX

Newly opened Brunchaholics delivers to their table soul food and creole cuisine with breakfast and brunch options. Open from Wednesday-Saturday, this local restaurant offers delivery, catering, and got some of the most notable ratings from Keith Lee.

THUNDERBIRD PIES  – Dallas, TX

This Detroit-style pizzeria is led by the same team who run Cane Rosso and Zoli’s Pizza. With perfect cheese crust edges, topped with Wisconsin cheese, and blended with delectable flavors, the Dallas Region is happy to be home to Thunderbird Pies.

With more than 10,000 votes on Keith Lee’s Instagram poll to visit, you should grab you friends and family and taste their incredible menu with your own reviews.

This Pakistani-Tex Mex fusion restaurant, a first in North Texas, comes with a uniquely South Asian twist and halal certified ingredients to meet the standards of Islamic dietary laws. Make sure to try their fusion dishes and everything in between!

Named as one of Texas Monthly’s Top 50 BBQ spots in the state, Hutchins BBQ is one of the most popular barbecue spots in North Texas and has the ability to ship orders nationwide. With more than 17,000 votes on his Instagram poll, Lee was impressed with this barbecue spot.

ABSOLUTELY EDIBLE CAKES– Rowlett, TX

Home of the Sweet Potato Thang, Absolutely Edible Cakes snagged one of the highest ratings of all time for a dessert from Keith Lee. This small cake shop has been in the area for more than 20 years and is happy to serve anyone walking through their doors with their sweet treats!

TASTE PROJECT– Fort Worth, TX

The Taste Project did not receive any rating from Keith Lee and that is because of their mission. Keith Lee spread the message on his social platforms that the Taste Project is “one of the dopest restaurants” he’s ever seen. They believe everyone should have access to healthy nutritional food and base pay on the following forms of payment:

  • Pay what you can afford,
  • Pay what you would typically pay, or
  • Pay what you would typically pay, plus a little extra.

They are opening another location in Arlington, TX walking distance from the University of Texas at Arlington. A fundraising campaign is in progress with about 20% of their goal still needing to be reached to open the restaurant before summer.

CEEZOOS– Dallas, TX 

This Dallas bar and lounge is the perfect blend of city vibes and intimate lounging in the heart of the Dallas Region. Serving brunch and other options, CeeZoos offers live music and a one-of-a-kind experience for you and your friends to enjoy.

ROOTS SOUTHERN TABLE– Farmers Branch, TX 

Chef Tiffany Derry, two-time James Bear Award finalist in 2022 and TV personality, established Roots Southern Table in 2021 with menu items inspired by her upbringing. This fine dining restaurant features southern dishes with strong Louisiana influences and locally sources their ingredients for a fresh and authentic feel to each of their dishes!

  • Biscuits: 6.5/10

A total solar eclipse is making its way to the Dallas Region on Monday, April 8th and will be located in the path of totality! Elevate your eclipse experience and head to any of the locations below for you to enjoy this ultimate experience. With music festivals, crafts, free solar glasses, and food trucks here and there, the Dallas Region is bringing it on so that you and your loved ones have the best eclipse viewing experience.

I’M IN THE ECLIPSE’S PATH!

Total Solar Eclipse coming soon to a city near you… Depending on your location, the amount of time the sun will be blocked by the moon and total darkness will be observed will be anywhere between a minute to more than four minutes. With events happening all throughout the weekend you can visit any of these cities around the region and enjoy a fun filled afternoon to celebrate this moment in history.

  • The last time the Dallas Region experienced a total solar eclipse was in 1878!
  • The last time there was a total solar eclipse in North America was in 2017!
  • The Dallas Region will not experience another total solar eclipse for an estimated 300 years.
  • The Dallas Region is one of the largest metropolitan areas in the line of totality.
  • The center line of the eclipse’s path will cross through 15 states.
  • Eclipse maximum is 4 minutes and 28 seconds, and Dallas will get to experience 3 minutes and 49 seconds.
  • About 30 million people will be in the eclipse’s path of totality and the Dallas Region accounts for about 7 million of those people.
  • Totality is safe to look at ONLY when the moon’s disk covers that of the Sun. Any other time it is highly recommended to wear eclipse glasses.
