Relocating with a furry friend? There are more than two dozen public dog parks in the Dallas Region. Some are small, with just enough room for curious canines to romp a bit, but others are magnificent puppy playgrounds with separate areas for large and small dogs, agility equipment, and even places for dogs to swim.

    RULES AND REGULATIONS

Here’s what you need to know about having a pet in the Dallas Region. If you have questions regarding your pet, contact animal control in your community or ask your veterinarian.

    Vaccinations

Texas requires that your pet be vaccinated against rabies every year starting at four months of age.  Vaccination must be administered by a licensed veterinarian and he should wear current proof of that vaccination on their collar.

    Registration

Dogs (and cats) must be registered with the city you live in and wear current registration tags. To register your pet, you will have to provide a current certificate of vaccination and pay a small annual fee.

    Leash Laws

Although Texas state law requires only dogs known to be dangerous be leashed, most cities in the Dallas Region have laws that require your dog to be leashed if they are not inside your house or in a fenced yard.

    Scooper Laws

Many cities in our area have passed pooper scooper laws, so if your pet poops on someone else’s property or public property, pick it up. It’s not only the nice thing to do, it’s illegal not to.
